Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how MetalCalc handles information when you use the Metal Building Cost Calculator, Quote Checker and related content on this website.
Information you provide
The calculator accepts building dimensions, project purpose, frame and scope choices, a U.S. state, foundation selections and optional building systems. These inputs are used to produce a planning estimate. MetalCalc does not require an account and does not ask for your name, phone number, street address or payment information.
If you create or open a shared estimate, project assumptions are placed in the page URL. Anyone who receives that URL can view those assumptions, so do not include confidential information in a shared link. A supplier quote amount entered in the Quote Checker is kept in the current browser page state and is not added to the shared URL or intentionally saved in a MetalCalc customer database.
If you contact MetalCalc by email, the message, email address and any information you choose to include will be received and used to respond to you.
Technical information
Hosting, network and security providers may automatically process ordinary request information such as an IP address, browser and device type, requested page, referring page, timestamps and diagnostic or security events. Shared-link query parameters may appear in request logs when a shared URL is opened.
Cookies, analytics and advertising
The current MVP does not intentionally use advertising trackers, behavioral advertising cookies or a separately configured analytics service. Essential infrastructure may still use technical mechanisms needed to deliver, protect or troubleshoot the website. If analytics, advertising or other non-essential tracking is introduced, this policy and any required consent controls will be updated before those tools are enabled.
How information is used
Information may be used to operate and secure the website, calculate and reproduce estimates, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, respond to messages, understand service reliability and comply with applicable legal obligations.
When information may be disclosed
Limited information may be processed by vendors that provide hosting, network, security or email services. Information may also be disclosed when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the service, investigate fraud or security incidents, or as part of a business reorganization. MetalCalc does not currently sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Retention
MetalCalc does not maintain an account or estimate-history database in this MVP. Technical logs are retained according to the operational settings of the applicable infrastructure provider and only as reasonably needed for security and troubleshooting. Contact emails may be retained while needed to answer a request, maintain appropriate records or meet legal obligations.
Your choices and requests
You can use the calculator without providing direct contact information. You can remove project assumptions from your browser address bar by deleting the URL query string. Browser settings may be used to restrict cookies or local storage. Depending on where you live and which law applies, you may have rights to request access, correction or deletion of personal information. Requests can be sent to the email below; identity verification may be required where appropriate.
Do Not Track and privacy preference signals
Because the current MVP does not sell personal information or use cross-context behavioral advertising, it does not currently offer an opt-out process for those activities. Browser signals will be reviewed if tracking practices change or an applicable law requires a specific response.
Children
MetalCalc is a general-audience construction budgeting tool and is not directed to children under 13. The site does not knowingly request personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through an email message, contact MetalCalc so the request can be reviewed.
Data security and international processing
Reasonable administrative and technical measures are used to protect the website, but no internet transmission or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure. Information handled by infrastructure or email providers may be processed in the United States or other locations where those providers operate.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated when the website, data practices or legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will be presented in an appropriate manner before they take effect when required.
